Community Tradition

Local’s Night

Local’s Night brings together Bayfield, Durango, and the surrounding communities for a summer evening on the pond. Locals and visitors alike gather across the lawn to cool down by the water, listen to live music, cast a line, and catch up with friends. Fishing is included — offering rare access to a privately stocked ten-acre pond in a setting that feels both relaxed and remarkable. Neighbors reconnect in a place that continues a long-standing tradition of bringing people together and holds memories for generations of residents in our community.

Annual Fundraiser

Annual Chuckwagon Dinner

An Evening Rooted in Western Heritage and American History.

Hosted by the La Plata–Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association — serving our agricultural community for over 75 years — the Annual Chuckwagon Dinner has been a treasured tradition since 2003. Each fall, chuckwagons from across Colorado gather at LePlatt’s Pond to prepare a traditional trail-style meal reminiscent of those cooked on cattle drives generations ago.

Wagon cooks, bosses, and crew camp beside their 100+ year-old wagons and cook through the night in cast iron Dutch ovens over open coals — beef, beans, bread, and cobbler prepared low and slow beneath the Colorado sky. By evening, the scent of wood smoke and supper drifts across the Pine River Valley.
